The City Sinners
The City Sinners were formed by Glasgow based singer / songwriter John Hinshelwood in 2006, with the aim of devising a show based on the life and music of the late Gram Parsons. To this end he recruited some of the finest Country/Americana players in Scotland.
Guitarist Iain Barbour has accompanied many high profile artistes such as Jason Ringenberg and Jim Lauderdale. He is also much in demand as a session player in addition to playing with Edinburgh based outfits Sunshine Delay and the Wynntown Marshalls.
Pedal steel player Malcolm McMaster has been a well known figure on the Scottish Country scene for many years with bands such as Route 65 and Jacksonville. He has also been involved in regular session work and most recently played with the Radio Sweethearts and John Miller’s Country Casuals.
Bass player Tim Clarke has played in countless rock, pop and blues bands in the Glasgow area and was a member of cult Country band Janet Jumps Bail in the 80s. Most recently he has been involved with the many, ever changing line ups of the John Hinshelwood Band, and harmonica wizard Fraser Speirs’ Road Rockets as well as being a long serving member of the house band at Glasgow’s State Bar Tuesday night blues jam.
Following spells in the USA and Canada, Dick Drake returned to Scotland in the 80s to join the highly acclaimed Zydeco Ceilidh band, and since then has been one of the most sought after drummers in Scotland, enjoying stints with many bands including pioneering country rock outfit Honest Sam and the Dealers with John Hinshelwood, the Nimmo Brothers and The Road Rockets. He is currently also with folk rock combo String Driven.
The most recent addition is vocalist Sandra Gellatly who worked as a singer and actor in her native Canada, before settling in Scotland in 2001. She has sung mainly on the folk circuit, but has always had a love of Country music old and new, and rates George Jones as one of her all time favourite singers.

The Sinners successfully toured the Parsons show around Scotland’s theatres and arts centres before diversifying a little from the tribute format. John and Sandra recorded a duo CD “Shattered Pleasures” where most of the songs were originals and the performances featured all members of the City Sinners. The band are now playing country and western festivals and clubs and an expanded repertoire now features songs from the new CD, other originals, and many of those featured in the Parsons’ show, as well as some more overtly Country material ranging from songs by old favourites such as Merle Haggard, George Jones and Merle Travis to more contemporary offerings by Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson and George Strait.
